The modifications really help out the unit and produce an amazing picture.

A digital projector is the easiest way to go but the picture on digital is not up to speed with a fresh tubed CRT. The problem is people compare a new digital to a old CRT unit with old CRTS. CRTs get dim and lose focus when they age so this is not a fair comparison.

Currently there are no digital projectors made that can come close to a CRT quality. Especially with the new HDMI and DVI mods the CRT is still the best projectors on the market today.

The 808s typically used the Sony tubes. The P16 tubes are much better but require a mod on the neck card and new face plates. The Mod we can do for you but you need to get new face plates to hold the tubes. We sell the tubes for this unit and we can get the face plates at a cost of $175.00 each.

A 1208, 1209, 1208s, 1209s already have this.

Are the modified face plates also necessary in case of a normal BG808(non S) P16 tubechange?

Yes we can modify any barco projector now. Even the newest build have dated designs. We can even make the Cine9 and 909 30% sharper. See barco has not put any new development in the CRT for over 7 years now. The new opamps that are being made today are sharper and have less noise that what barco used on the 1209s 909 Cine 9 models. WE have tested and re-tested parts and found most done work but a few of them do. So we stock up on that part for the mods. Its takes a very special part to work perfectly in a barco. We when though 5000+ specs to get some replacement parts that would make an improvement.

A normal barco 808 just needs new tubes or high rez tubes.

808s typically has sony tubes and needs new hardware because sony tubes are not aval anymore.

So you need to get a set of front hardware off a 1208 unit.

I hope that helps.
